Wine Help! Wine that’s not bitter?

I am planning a romantic dinner for my boyfriend on Wed, and I wanted to add some wine. I don’t know anything about wine, nor have a taste for it, so at the clerks suggestion I bough Blackstone winery Pinot Noir. I test drove it today and it was disgusting. Is there anything that doesn’t have that bitter flavor? My friend told me Arbor Mist is good, but is that really wine? or just white trashy?

Its real wine, but most people who drink wine don’t drink it as much because its very sweet. Its the difference between fresh squeezed orange juice and Kool-aid. Both have their place, but there is a time and a place for each. Actually a better comparison might be coffees. The first cup of coffee you have normally isn’t a shot of espresso. To a new drinker it would taste bitter and not all that good. You might enjoy something like a Frappaccino. Whereas someone used to coffee can appreciate the different flavors in a dark espresso or black coffee. Red wine is like black coffee, it normally is an acquired taste.

If you would like to try something different, you could try Riunite Lambrusco. Its a red wine, but still fairly sweet like an Arbor Mist. Or if you want a “real” wine try a Riesling. Its a white and I consider it a good starter wine. Its not as sweet as an Arbor Mist, but is light and crisp with a hint of sweetness. I recommend Chateau St Michelle Riesling. Its fairly easy to find in most liquor stores, and is also on many wine menus at restaurants. Then if you like it, you’ll have a wine to try when you go out.

Another way to try and find a wine you like is go to a restaurant that offers free samples. I know at Olive Garden restaurants you used to be able to have up to 3 different one ounce samples of any wine that they serve by the glass. No, one ounce is not a lot but it will help you find one that you like. They used to have the Chateau St Michelle there. You might also like their house wines such as the Principato Rosato. Its a blush wine and fairly sweet.
