chardonnay wine
can you recommend a good red and a good white wine (not Chardonnay) ?

At no more than £7.50 per bottle.
could you give me brand names please

Your best bet would be to go to Waitrose or Booths and go to the wine section. They both have a very good selection. It will be hard to really mess it up there. They have good wine for that price.

It’s easy to pick bad wine for £7.50 in asda, tesco, and sainsburys unless you really know what you’re doing. Avoid the off licence because you’ll get less for your money.

Much as I love French wine, it might be worth avoiding french reds because of the distinctiveness of the flavours. (if you’re not sure what you want). White, try Muscadet Sevre et Main or Alsace Gewurztraminer (types, not brands)

Countries to look out for may be Chile and South Africa (who are offering good quality and low prices at the moment.) Australia is safe but very dull (for me).

Don’t worry about brands too much, but Concha y Toro (esp. reds) from Chile are OK at the moment. Maybe a Chenin Blanc from SAfrica.
