the best way to bring alcohol on a cruise ship?
Here’s the way!!! on a cruise we took last week, I filled a screw top green wine bottle with vodka and put it in my suitcase-with the top really right so it looked unopened. In my golf bag, I put a metal water bottle with cranberry juice and a clear one with triple sec. The wine bottle got picked up but it looked like unopened wine and for that I paid a corkage fee. My husband went to REI and got a soft plastic gallon bottle and put his rum(much less than a gallon!- in it-went through fine. There’s also a web site, http://www.rumrunnerflasks.com/, that has clear soft plastic flasks that will not be picked up by an xray. If you are flying, obviously, these need to go in checked luggage! Finally, I had my stainless steel water bottle in my carry on, with juice in it, went through the xray with no issues at all. Next time, I would do the rum runner flask and the triple sec (for cosmos) and skip the juice, it’s easy to get it at the buffet or it’s cheap at one of the bars.
The plastic flasks are the best idea. the cruise lines do scan your luggage and they do look for obvious signs of liquor with the fifth and quart bottles showing up like a sore thumb. the key is downsize.
Why bother with all of that trouble of filling water bottles. Just go to your liquor store and get some half pint bottles and/or mini’s and then just pack them with your toiletries. Wrap a mini in a sock and stick the whole thing in a shoe. Fill up several shoes. and fill up your toiletries bag with well spaced and placed mini’s. I take a couple of half pint sized flasks in my checked luggage on every cruise, no problems yet. Just don’t try to pack a quart or half gallon of liquor and always pack it in checked luggage
