How to keep night prowlers out of yard?

I live in a medium sized town and rent a house there. It has a huge back yard and a chain linked fence all around, except the front, which is open. We found a cell phone on the side porch last week, and yesterday, two wine bottles in the drive, one of which was broken. There are people walking around and coming in our large yard at all hours I presume. I installed security sensor lights, but that hasn’t stopped people from entering. What should I do?? My dad joked about maybe putting an electric fence around house and side yard…but I really don’t know what to do, and I am renting. I can’t move right now, I just don’t want people trespassing in my yard. Any ideas would be great. Thank you.
Unfortunatly I can’t have a dog where I rent the house, although that would be the easiest solution.

Borrow a pit bull, and chain it in the front for a few days- They’ll get the idea.
