Thinking of Making Your Own Wine?
Have you ever had the idea of making your own wine? In your own home? Thousands of people today enjoy the benefits, rewards, and hobby of making their own wine, in their own home. Wine making is a hobby that does not need a lot of space or money to get started. With just simple winemaking equipment, you can begin making wine today.
Making wine at home is much easier than you might at first think. The whole process is basically combining grape concentrate or other fruits and or vegetables with a few other simple ingredients, placing the mix into a container, and then letting the container get to work. The resulting process is quite natural, and does not require a lot of interaction from you. All you really need to do is combine the proper proportions of ingredients and then provide them with an environment that is suitable and stable.
One of the first steps to making wine is deciding on a recipe. This might actually prove to be one of the hardest steps in the entire process. There are many different recipes to choose from, and many different types of wine to make. If you have purchased a winemaking kit, chances are it includes at least one recipe you can use to get started. And there are numerous winemaking recipes available in wine making books and on the internet.
An important step is also giving some thought to the type of fruit that you will use to make your wine. Most wines are made with grapes, however, many wines are also made from fruit, such as blackberries, apples, strawberries, and much more.
Another option would be to make wine from concentrated juice. Wine juice concentrate is available in home brewing stores, and on the internet. Many of the containers even have wine recipes and directions on them. If you are new to winemaking, using concentrated wine juice is a good idea, as they are simple to use. They are also available throughout the entire year, as opposed to fruit, which might only be available during certain seasons.
You might also want to give some thought to using a winemaking starter kit. These kits typically contain the ingredients, instructions, and recipes you need to make your first batch of wine. If you have been intimidated by the process of making wine, these starter kits are designed to help make the process smoother, and guide you though it relatively smoothly and intuitively.
If you are thinking of starting your first batch of wine, you will need a few basic ingredients. These are necessary for making wine from either concentrate or fruit.
Wine yeast is the ingredient that actually starts the fermentation process, by converting sugar into alcohol. Yeast nutrient is what supplies the yeast with the energy it needs to start the fermentation process. Pectic enzyme can be added to aide in the breakdown of fruit during the fermentation process. Acid blend is used to control the sharpness that is present in wine. You may discover that some of your wine seems somewhat flat. Acid blend can help to correct this. Tannin is basically fruit zest, and is available in a powdered form. Tannin may be added to improve the wine’s character. Campden tablets are typically added right before fermentation, and before bottling. These tablets make sure that wine does not become spoiled.
With just a few ingredients, some wine concentrate or fruit, a basic wine making kit, and just a tad bit of knowledge, you will be ready to start making your own wine.
