In search of mini wine barrels…?

I am getting married this June, and our reception is going to be inside an enormous 200 year old barn. It is a stunning barn and I want to go with the barn theme….For the tables, we are having burlap tablecloths and I am looking for mini wine barrels, about 8 inches or so high, that I can put my floral centerpieces in. I am having a really hard time finding them. I have googled “mini wine barrels”, “wine barrel vase” etc. Does anyone know where or who I can find these? Someone, somewhere has had to thought of this before I have! Any help or direction? Thank you!
Let me elaborate. I dont want something that sits on its side and has a tap and looks like a keg…it really looks like the wooden rain barrels. It sits upright, not on its side. Only it needs to be 8-12 inches tall. Not 3 or 4 feet tall.

I own a home remodeling/interior design business in West Virginia, and I am the queen of finding what a client asks for…but even I am having trouble finding exactly what you are looking for. Fret not! I do have some ideas…

First of all, I think your google search terms may be leading you in the wrong direction. It seems you actually want a keg and not a barrel, so try searching as such. Also, what you seem to want are usually not called “wine” barrels, but “whiskey” barrels. Sometimes they were actually used to store and transport pickles as well. You are correct that the exact style you are looking for are known as “rain” barrels.

With that said, the hard part seems to find one that is upright and small. All the small ones I find are on their side like this one…http://www.kentuckybarrels.com/hobbybarrels.html. I’ve also found several upright versions but they are too big. But this doesn’t solve your dilema at all does it?? So….

There are a couple things you can do. One, you can purchase small barrels and add the tap yourself (sounds like you want the look and not the function, so this shouldn’t be too tough). Problem is, I had trouble finding small barrels period! I bet you can find them at a craft store like Hobby Lobby or Michael’s, and they will probably also have the spigots/taps. You can definitely find the hardware online (like here http://www.kentuckybarrels.com/barrelaccents.html), but since I had a hard time finding even a place to purchase small barrels, here is my other suggestion…

Use wooden buckets instead of barrels like the ones on this site…

Consider using the keg/barrel idea you wanted to use originally for centerpieces in another application. You can actually use a functional one to serve beer, wine, or other beverages. You can also use them as seats, or for larger flower arrangements. You can even use them as the trash cans! Check this out for more ideas…http://www.kentuckybarrels.com/uses.html

Hope this helps!
