plastic wine bottles
Is it dangerous to keep wine in a plastic bottle?(for 20 hours)?

Can the wine react with the plastic causing it to have a different taste and making it dANgerous to drink???

I have a friend who makes wine and he brews the wine in 5 gallon plastic water jugs. He also stores wine in 2-liter soda bottles. The only problem he has had is the bottles can explode if the carbonation from still fermenting wine builds up too much. This only happens when the wine is ‘poured off’ too early. He usually ‘burps’ the bottles by loosening the caps just enough for a slow hiss of air to escape without the wine bubbling over. This is actually champagne wine, not quite finished fermenting. I have not noticed any deterioration of the wine’s flavor for sitting in a plastic jug for a few days. Just keep it refrigerated. Ant longer than that I cannot tell you, as wine never lasts too long around my house. As far as expensive wine, it is always bottled in glass bottles.
