Rare Wines

rare wines
I have a couple questions about wine?

I am working on a scholarship that requires me to look into wine. I have no previous knowledge of it.
If you had to choose a wine to buy that is under 500 dollars and will be worth a lot of money in 200 years what would you choose? Or where should I look for that kind of information?
I need to find some rare, coveted wine that would fetch a really great price in about 200 years.

200 years is pretty questionable. But I would say a Burgundy could make it that long. And it would have to be a Domaine RomanĂ©e-Conti. The problem is getting a bottle. I do think they have some that are under $500 on release, but availability is few and far between. But I would think for a paper – availability wouldn’t matter. It’s value would be astronomical in 30 years, let alone 200.

EDIT: here’s a reference to a Buchard Burgundy from 1846 that was recently consumed (still 35 years from 200, but I bet they’ll make it)! Another note (and I had forgotten all about this) the article mentions that they recorck every 20 years or so to help maintain the bottles http://www.intowine.com/pinot-noir-la-cote-de-beaune-burgundy%E2%80%99s-bouchard

EDIT AGAIN: maybe I speak to soon – you might consider a Riesling. Check this out! http://www.finestandrarest.com/german.html
