Red wine…?

I heard red wine is good for your health if used moderately. I never had wine before, can someone recommend a a good, yet no too expensive brand or red wine? Also, how much is moderate?

Red wine in general is good for you, but recent research has shown that some grape varieties are better than others. According to research done by Roger Corder, professor of experimental therapeutics in London and author of “The Red Wine Diet: Drink Wine Every Day and Live a Long and Healthy Life,” Madiran (not to be confused with Madeira, a fortified wine) made of Tannat grapes from the southwest of
France is the most beneficial. Other useful grape varieties are Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Barolo.

All of these grape varieties make powerful, tannic red wines, which is why they’re the healthiest. Being new to wine, you may not like them, but you can get similar benefits from cranberries, apples and dark chocolate.

Madiran is the most difficult to find, Cab the easiest. Altos Las Hormigas makes a good Malbec under $20. One to two glasses a day is considered moderate.
