Is a sealed bottle of wine safe to drink if it has particles floating in it?

We’re clearing out an old liquor cabinet and found sealed bottles of wine and champagne, both kinds have particles floating in the bottle. We don’t know if it’s safe to drink.

That’s cork that has gone dry and flaked off into the bottles. The very best bottle of wine I ever drank had sediment and cork in it.

I’d be only concerned if the given wines are still WORTH drinking. Old whites are just plain bad. And by old I mean anything over a couple of years. Whites don’t age well as a rule.

And the reds are going to be pretty much vinegar if they’re low quality. In either case, it’s doubtful they’re going to harm you. Pour the wine into a decanter through a fine cheese cloth or a pair of pantyhose even. This’ll filter out the crud. Have a small sip. if it tastes good, then you’re fine.
