Corking bottles of homemade wine?

So I’m going to be making some wine soon and rather than spend outlandish amounts of money on buying new wine bottles I’ve simply collected some that I’ve drank, asked around at bars…but this leads me to an issue with corks…I see that there are predominately #8 and #9 corks and they are recommended for different bottles…does it really matter? Which should I buy if I want it to work with most common bottles?

I use only number 9 corks for my wine bottles. The difference in size isn’t noticeable when they are compressed to insert into the bottles.
