This caused epidemiologists to suspect that this discrepancy was due to the large consumption of wine in France.

Wine also provides several health benefits via its antioxidants. Present in red wine are the antioxidants catechins and resveratrol. These two wonderful substances help reduce oxidative or free radical damage, as well as defend LDL cholesterol against oxidization and help prevent age-related macular degeneration (AMG) by maintaining normal cell growth. Furthermore, resveratrol attacks cancer cells, and thus, potentially decreases the risk of getting cancer.

Another health benefit of drinking wine is that wine acts as a form of aphrodisiac, particularly for women. A team of Italian doctors conducted a study in which it was discovered that levels of sexual desire were higher in women who were moderate wine drinkers. This may be due to the occurrence of an increase in blood flow to the necessary locations of the body that transpires after consuming wine.  

With a growing amount of supportive evidence, it is clear that drinking wine, especially red wine because it contains more polyphenols, can offer many rewards to your health and well-being, such as reducing your risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease, providing your body with important antioxidants, and paving the way towards a more fulfilling sex life. It is important to note, however, that these benefits are the result of moderate wine consumption. Anyone engaging in the use of alcohol should be sure to exercise good judgment because drinking in excess can have very serious ramifications.
