wine pronunciation
Do names of wines have a distinct pronunciation in English?

for example: Merlot, Chardonnay, Chianti, Bordeaux
Are they pronounced different than in their original places(Italian and French)?

There are “English” pronunciations of the “foreign” names, but many English-speaking people are able to pretty-much produce the native-language sounds (e.g., key-ahn’-tee, bore-dough’, mer-low’, shar-dough-nay) of each name, but there are many people who make mistakes. But many native-English-speaking person will never QUITE get the name to come out like a native from the country of origin. There are also some cases where “perfectly acceptable” English pronunciations don’t match the original languages (e.g., sham-pain) and it comes across a pompous if someone tries for a truer sound (e.g., shahm-pon-yah).
