Are wines really made out of grapes that were stepped on by ppl’s bare feet?

Pardon the ignorance, I never claim to be an expert. I just thought in olden times ppl stepped on grapes to make wines. I saw a recent reality show where a bunch of women are invited to watch how wines are made and there were buckets of grapes and these women are then invited to step on them! There they go, they took off their shoes, stepping and crushing the grapes with their bare feet and toes! >:o
Joey K: Holy crap…. you know hands and fists will be nice instead! ;)

Very select wines now still are, but very few. They have wineries in California where you take off your shoes and stomp the grapes yourself. They then capture the juice, ferment it, bottle it and give it to you and few years later with your own label on it for a few hundred dollars.

Most wines today are stomped by machine though. The machines are constructed to produce the same type of action as feet and toes though. The preferred action is to squeeze the grapes but not crush too much of the grape skin. There are some delicate tolerances in how much pressure these machines exert to resemble how wine was made by human feet for thousands of years.
